Eclipse

Last night was an experience I will not forget. Coming home from the restaurant the moon was already high and very bright. Tonight was going to be a wonderful opportunity to see a total eclipse.

At first I set up my camera in the warm and pointed it through the window - but two layers of glass don’t make for easy focussing - so as things began to get interesting I took a pair of steps out into the back yard and clamped the camera to it. I’m pleased with my digital camera (Fuji S7000) - but focussing on an object at night is not easy and the pictures I got - whilst they show what happened are really very disappointing.

But the event itself was no disappointment as the earth’s shadow fell across the moon and the moon glowed red.

Truly the heavens declare the glory of God! But although the BBC website and comments are full of praise and wonder - not one of them mentioned God. I’m not sure whether that is editorial policy at work or that no-one felt constrained to praise Him.

One Response to “Eclipse”

  1. Tim Ford says:

Unfortunately the flesh was weak. I slept through! It just strikes me as ironic that though we can predict with accuracy the exact time of an eclipse, most people don’t want to think the universe is orderly and bears all the hallmarks of an intelligent designer. The heavens not only declare the glory of God, but in our modern world we ought to be able to admit that the havens declare the existence of God!
